Claiming Tuition Fees

If you are an eligible Apprentice/Trainee (click here to see if you are eligible) you are entitled to receive subsidies on your up-front training costs charged by your Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Since January 2008, only authorised RTOs claim Tuition fees from the CITB on the Apprentice/Trainees behalf.  This means the RTO will pass the support funding discount directly onto the Apprentice/Trainee at the point of payment.

The Tuition Incentive Funding is a payment of up to $1,600 over the first three years of the Apprenticeship, with a maximum payment cap of $600 per calendar year.  Please note that only one claim can be made per financial year, and all claims must be lodged and processed before the end of that financial year.  This payment is also only claimable after the Apprentice/Trainee has completed their probation period.

Tuition funding includes:

  • Apprentice enrolment fees (not current worker funded programs, eg licences)
  • Specified approved codes and standards integral to the course:
    • Plumbing and Gas Codes
    • Electrical Code

Please note that claims will NOT be accepted for WORK BOOKS, TOOLS, CLOTHING or TRANSPORTATION costs.  The Australian Government Apprenticeship Training Fee Voucher of $500 will assist with these out of pocket costs.  If an RTO is lodging the claim on behalf of an eligible Apprentice, then the claim must be for "Student Contribution" fees only.
